Introduction: Table salt is primarily composed of sodium chloride (NaCl). Sodium chloride is a white crystalline substance that is easily soluble in water. Its solubility remains relatively constant with changes in temperature. It has a salty taste and is edible (potassium iodate is sometimes added for iodization purposes in experiments). The color reaction of sodium chloride is yellow (a physical property of sodium ions). Its aqueous solution can react with silver nitrate solution to form a white precipitate that is insoluble in dilute nitric acid (a chemical property of chloride ions). Sodium chloride is commonly found in a solid state at room temperature and its solubility varies in water.
