Ingredients for Brown Sugar Sticky Rice Cakes

Glutinous rice flour 200g
Brown sugar 40g
Soybean flour 45g
Red bean paste 40g

Steps:

1.In a bowl, combine 200g of glutinous rice flour and 40g of brown sugar. Mix well. Add a suitable amount of water and continue stirring until a smooth dough forms.

2.Take a plate, brush the bottom with oil, and place the kneaded dough on it. Flatten the dough using your hands to achieve a smoother surface. Cover the plate with plastic wrap and poke several small holes in the wrap using a toothpick. Place the plate in a preheated steamer, cover it with the steamer lid, and start steaming. Set the steaming time for 20 minutes, adjusting slightly if needed.

3.After 20 minutes, remove the steamed glutinous rice cake from the plate and transfer it onto a board dusted with  soybean flour. Shape the glutinous rice cake into a rectangular sheet by pressing it with your hands. Roll it out into a slightly thinner sheet.

4.Evenly spread a layer of red bean paste on the surface of the sheet, ensuring that it is distributed evenly. Then, roll up the glutinous rice cake in one direction. This step requires care and patience to ensure that the roll maintains its shape and is not damaged or deformed. When the roll reaches a certain point, you can gently press it down with your hands to make it more presentable and easier to cut.

5.Once rolled, cut the glutinous rice roll into small sections, each about 2-3cm wide. Arrange them on a prepared plate. Sieve a layer of  soybean flour on the surface of each section as decoration. You can also garnish each section with a cooked red bean or crushed peanuts in the center to make them more enticing.

Tips

1.Select high-quality brown sugar: Choose brown sugar with a darker color and fine texture to ensure a richer brown sugar flavor in the rice cakes.
2.Control the amount of water: Adjust the amount of water when dissolving the brown sugar. If you prefer a thicker syrup, reduce the amount of water; if you prefer a more liquid syrup, add a bit more water.
3.Decorate creatively: If you want to add some beautiful decorations to the rice cakes, you can sprinkle crushed peanuts, black sesame seeds, or shredded coconut on top of the glutinous rice balls. This will enhance both the texture and visual appeal of the rice cakes, making them more enticing.
