Ingredients for Cola Pork Ribs

Pork ribs 500g
Green onion 20g
Ginger 18g
Light soy sauce 9g
Oyster sauce 8g
Cola 2 bottles

Steps:

1.When purchasing the ribs, it is recommended to choose fresh lean meat that will result in a tender texture. Rinse the ribs and soak them in cold water for a period of time to remove any blood. Wash and cut the scallions and ginger into sections and slices, respectively. Prepare two cans of cola; if you prefer a stronger sweetness, regular cola can be chosen, while sugar-free cola can be used for a slightly sweeter taste.

2.Place the ribs in a pot and add enough cold water. Add the scallion sections and ginger slices, then bring it to a boil over high heat. Skim off any impurities and reduce the heat to continue simmering for about 10 minutes. Remove the ribs from the pot and rinse them thoroughly. This step helps eliminate any fishy odor or blood from the ribs.

3.Heat an appropriate amount of oil in the pot. Once hot, add the scallion sections and ginger slices, stir-frying until fragrant. Add the ribs to the pot and fry them over medium heat until both sides turn golden brown. This step enhances the ribs’ aroma and crispness. Add some light soy sauce and oyster sauce to the pot, stir-frying evenly to allow the ribs to fully absorb the flavors.

4.Pour the prepared cola into the pot, adding enough to cover the ribs. If a stronger sweetness is desired, additional cola can be added. Adjust the salt according to personal preference. Cover the pot and simmer the ribs over low heat for approximately 30 minutes. During this process, avoid uncovering the pot to prevent the loss of steam.

5.Remove the lid, and at this point, the cola should have thickened. Increase the heat to high and reduce the sauce until it reaches a sticky consistency. Transfer the cooked cola pork ribs to a serving plate and sprinkle some chopped green onions on top as decoration.

1.Before cooking the pork ribs, it’s recommended to blanch them. Place the ribs in boiling water and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, then remove and rinse them thoroughly. This process helps remove blood and impurities, making the ribs cleaner and improving the texture.
2.Patience is required when braising cola pork ribs. Slow cooking with low heat or using a pressure cooker can make the ribs more tender and succulent. Additionally, pay attention to the cooking time to avoid overcooking the ribs, which can result in them becoming overly mushy or too soft.
3.Adjust the seasoning according to personal taste preferences. For instance, you can add ingredients such as scallions, ginger, and garlic for added aroma, or include some chili flakes to enhance the spiciness.
